Forest to Faucet

A healthy forest surrounding Loch Raven is critical to maintaining quality drinking water. Numerous mammals, birds and reptiles use the reservoir forest as critical habitat and there presence helps the forest regenerate. Please do not alter the forest through collecting or removing any natural resource.

A Changing Landscape

The Gunpowder River has sustained life in our region for thousands of years. From hunting camps used by native peoples to 19th factories, the remains of communities that predate the reservoir are still occasionally visible. When hiking at Loch Raven, you may see the remains of house foundations and other remnants of history. Please do not enter or climb upon these structures and please leave them the way you found them. Damaging or altering these resources is illegal because it infringes on our ability to learn and understand how prior generations used this critical resource.
